When we went out to Michigan to spend Christmas with Kevin's family, one of the things waiting for us was a big garbage bag full of old fabrics, all for the taking if I wanted. Que lujo!
One of the things I found was a half-finished dress.
I took it, just on a whim.


Here it is after a little work--the front seam is pinned together but not sewn yet.
Oh.
And it's inside out.

Uhhh.....yeah. Here it is, finished. And sideways. But I'm too lazy right now to fix it. Ahh, Sunday nights when you're working. So....check it. Cute dress, nice lines.....

fits me PERFECTLY.

I didn't have to change a thing. Just finish it. It was already cut to exactly my size.
Amazing? Oh yes, my friends.

Heeee--yyyyy!

I'm starting up sew it again, after a year and some of dreaming-planning-scheming time in Nicaragua. My fingers have been itching to sew, so here's a little show and tell of the fun-ness of having a sewing machine again! This blog owes all of it's thanks to one Ryan Voogt. Thanks for bugging me to keep the sew it magic alive.

I saw a bag I liked on the internets and decided to see if I could make something similar...

I went through a lot of newspapers in a pattern-making frenzy! Yay!
I used some old wool fabric my mom had been hoarding in the basement for years, and found some zippers at vinnie's (the best second hand store EVER) for $.10 each. Rocks my freaking face off.

Here's a final pic--a little floppy, but still fun. Kevin's sister is now the new proud owner! I have another cut out of the same fabric, so one of these days I'll get around to making it. I was mostly excited about all the zipper-ness!

Maybe I should throw myself a welcome-back-to-the-net party. I'm finally puttin' a little somethin' somethin' on this page, anyway. Here goes:

I found this funktified fabric at the second hand store a few weeks ago, and I just knew I had to do something with it. The first time I cut it out, though, I did the whole thing upside down so all the little guys and their buildings would be walking on the sky! Argggh! Details. Cutting number two proved successful, however, so here it is.

Kevin loves to polish his shoes and has a well-stocked shoe polish collection. Which he typically keeps tied up in a plastic grocery bag. Which typically rips after one or two polishings. My dad came to the rescue with some super chunky, water resistant fabric from one of his second hand store binges, so I mustered up all of my zipper-sewing skills and put together this little misfit of a bag. Maybe someday I'll sew some shoes on it or something.

I asked Kevin what shape to make it, and he said hexagonal.

Crazy kid!

I'm not sure I did it quite right, but there's lotsa corners on this baby.
